The Whole-Making Nearness of God
with Dr Sheri Kling
Stress, fear, and dread, though natural responses to uncertainty, can block human flourishing. Yet regardless of our present circumstances or painful past, the dynamic and creative flow of life that some call God is as near as our breath.

In the morning session of this virtual retreat day, psycho-spiritual theologian Sheri D. Kling, Ph.D. will remind us that God’s radical incarnation in every moment is the source of novel whole-making possibilities, transformation, and holy resilience. This time will be largely teaching and discussion.

In the afternoon, Sheri will lead us through a contemplative practice she developed called Dream Divina to allow us to better understand one of our own dreams and experience a bit of that whole-making nearness of God for ourselves. This time together will be interactive, as we participate in unfolding one another's dreams, images and symbols. Don't be shy - take a few notes and bring in some of your own mysterious night visions!

FALL MYSTICISM SERIES
Going Deep with The Mystical Traditions
(Last Fall we offered some "Spiritual Speed-Dating" with a little taste of the various mystic traditions... This year we're going deeper, to introduce the richness of the mystical perspectives that live within the more traditional faith paradigms. Each session will offer an overview of that tradition's theology and practices, then moving into the special world of perennial wisdom that resides within the borders of that faith - but reaches beyond. Each session will include a teaching and experience of contemplative practices that lie at the heart of each tradition.

"Introduction to Integral Theory" with Carl McColman

Picture
"Integral theory is a school of philosophy that seeks to integrate all of human wisdom into a new, emergent worldview that is able to accommodate the gifts of all previous worldviews, including those which have been historically at odds: science and religion, Eastern and Western schools of thought, and pre-modern, modern and post-modern worldviews.
Integral theory builds on the foundations of evolutionary theory. We know from ever-more sophisticated observation and analyses that the cosmos burst into being about 13.8 billion years ago, first as energy then as matter, arising as atoms and molecules that formed the heavenly bodies, including our home planet, Earth.
An integral view of history maintains that the collective consciousness of the human race has evolved through pre-modern, modern and post-modern structures, and is emerging into a new structure of consciousness, the integral stage, which is characterized by an ability to think and act from multiple worldviews." ~ Jeff Salzman, "The Daily Evolver"

"Applying the Enneagram & Kabbalah to an Awakened Life" with Rabbi Mitch Cohen

Picture
This workshop combines two of the most powerful maps of consciousness known to humanity: the Tree of Life (the 10 Sefirot) from the Jewish mystical tradition of Kabbalah, and the nine-pointed Enneagram.  Both were developed by generations by mystics from various spiritual traditions.
Individually, each offers guidance and wisdom; together, they show the forces that propel us and shape our personalities and behavior. Most importantly, the two suggest how we can live more awakened and harmoniously with ourselves, others and discover our own spiritual gateway to the One.

In this interactive workshop, we will be taking a deeper dive into our Enneagram type and drawing from the Four Worlds and 10 Sefirot (Divine Emanations), we will enhance our spiritual growth, and deepen our connection with our Spiritual Essence and our True Inner Nature.

"Contemplation and Practice: Wisdom of the World’s Mystical Traditions"
with Carl McColman

Picture
Theology and religious institutions often seem to separate us — but spirituality and mysticism invite us to find our deep union in the Divine and in one another. With this principle in mind, Contemplation and Practice invites us into a seven week journey of learning about the mystical traditions found in the world's great spiritual paths — with a focus on contemplative exercises that can help us embody that mystical union in our own hearts and minds. From the western traditions of Sufism, Kabbalah, and Christian mysticism, to eastern traditions such as Vedanta or Zen, we will celebrate both the cultural diversity and the profound contemplative unity that holds world mysticism together.

"Unteachable Lessons"
Author reading and book signing by beloved and prolific writer, Atlanta's Carl McColman.
It has been said that life is a like a school — and the point to living a good life is learning the lessons that help us to become happier, more loving, and more wise. But some of life's most important lessons can never be put into words; they can never be "taught" — we can only learn them by living our own lives mindfully and consciously. Spirituality is not a set of problems to solve or a course of study to master: it is an invitation to live your life fully, with awareness and appreciation and a willingness to be present to all that life has to offer.
